SUPER-INCLUSIVE is a network of independently owned tourist sites throughout the Mayan Riviera. Sites are linked by an open-content database and a series of artificial reef structures that create causeways, urban platforms, and buildings. At a regional and urban scale, the isolation of the all-inclusive resort is challenged in favor of a dispersed network of sites including multi-national hotels, locally owned restaurants, jungle hiking trails, and hydroponic mangrove nurseries that travelers can explore in an unscripted manner. By connecting such an odd assortment of sites, SUPER-INCLUSIVE seeks an active interaction and densification – spatially, economically, and ecologically – between a broad range of ethical human practices and natural land. By enhancing the interdependence and shared interests between these stakeholders, we can ensure that improvements to one yield a positive result for another. Unlike the current practice of dividing the Mayan Riviera into isolated natural reserves, worker settlements, and all-inclusive resorts, this project seeks the strangest and most unlikely of alliances among humans, animals, plants, and corporations -- somewhere between the desire for escape and exploitation.
