INSTANT STRIP
Tourism shouldn´t be anymore an agressive invasion for the Mexican Coast. There is still a chance for preserving the natural heritage and culture in this paradise: the Instant Strip. From now on, tourists will still buy their “sea, sex and sun” dose, but not in the land itself.
We create an instant facsimile of the existing nightmare, the Houellebecqs´ Platform envisioned situation consisting on a swarm of floating mixed-use towers. This system allows us to still exploit the touristic appeal of the environment -make cash-flow-, but just for arranged periods of time. This is not a static settlement, but a proposal for laying smoothly near the site and then leaving. This is not a intruder, but a visitor, a rich uncle visit.
This new Instant Hyper-Strip will be far more appealing than the existing one, offering a extremely relaxed taxes and laws environment. Compared to the existing artificial paradise, Hyper-Strip provides harder sex trade chances, harder gambling challenges, harder workers exploitation opportunities, and -finnaly- the hardest consumerism abuses.
As a result of Hyper-Strip activity, the Mayan Riviera may become a place to work and live, with sporadic tourism visits. No more resorts, no more strip. Just a raw territory to be locally developed or even an abandoned historic scenery where vegetation floods the ruins of some delirious past.
On how the Instant Strip works.
Instant Strip is an ephemeral situation provided when global economic factors converge. Demand of cheap consume and sex tourism combined with local autorities need of quick incomes, then the space miles away from the beach is hired for a period.
When not fully in use, the platforms keep working as nomad factories, free of taxes and human rights. When active, they work as linked resorts where every obscure desire can be satisfied, from the object production phase to the final consumer.
On the single floating unit.
Every single floating unit is a self-sufficient complex. Like microscale paradoxic non-places. The intern organization reflects the economic and social patterns of 21st century extinguishing urban mankind. Consisting on two linked bodies, the upper one working as hotel resort, the lower one as leisure and finnally factories at the very bottom. This two elements are linked together through an open air boulevard: the new lobby, where every flows meet. When two floating units get in touch they plug at this level, wich makes the strip. From this urban hall some paths lead to artificial islands, tiny private beaches for rent.
